Safety

Breakdowns are stressful. Here’s how to stay safe while you wait, and what BIDR does behind the scenes to protect you.

In an emergency, call 999

If you are in danger, in a live lane, or on a smart motorway without a hard shoulder, contact the emergency services before posting a job.

While you wait

  • If you are in a live lane, on a motorway hard shoulder or in any position you feel is unsafe, call 999 first. BIDR is not an emergency service.
  • Where possible, move the vehicle off the carriageway, switch on hazard lights and use a warning triangle only where it is safe to do so.
  • On a motorway, leave the vehicle by the left-hand doors and wait behind the barrier, uphill of the vehicle if you can.
  • Keep passengers and pets out of the vehicle and away from moving traffic while you wait.
  • Mark the job as unsafe when posting so providers know to prioritise it.

How BIDR protects you

Your address stays private until you pay

Providers only see an approximate area — never your exact address, coordinates, name or number — until your booking is confirmed.

All contact happens in BIDR

Messages open only after payment is secured, and every conversation is logged. Phone numbers, emails, links and off-platform payment requests are blocked automatically.

Providers are checked before going live

Every provider confirms their legal identity, insurance and waste-disposal responsibilities. Uncertain submissions are reviewed by a person before approval.

You confirm the work, not us

Money is only released against a job you have confirmed as complete. If something isn't right, report it from the job screen.

Report anything that feels wrong

Every message has a report option. Reports go straight to the BIDR trust and safety queue and can suspend an account.
